About PlugCompass
Finding a good charger is harder than it should be: prices are hidden in apps, speeds vary from 6 kW to 350 kW, and some chargers are broken or only open to customers. PlugCompass rates every public charger on the facts.
PlugCompass is a free EV charging map that turns open government data, operators' live status and drivers' check-ins into one independent 0–10 score for 240,000+ charging locations in the U.S., the Netherlands, France, Sweden, Norway and Finland, with live availability for 292,000+ charge points refreshed every few minutes. Distance and advertising never change a score.
The Problem We Solve
Unlike gas stations that display their prices on big signs, EV charging prices are buried in apps, listed in confusing formats (per kWh, per minute, per session, with idle fees), and vary dramatically from one charger to the next. Most stations don't publish a price at all. PlugCompass shows what is known, says clearly what isn't, and rates each charger on price, speed, reliability, access and ports.
How It Works
We Aggregate Data
Station details and real per-charger power (kW) come from the U.S. Department of Energy's station database (NREL). Driver check-ins come from PlugCompass users and Open Charge Map; place types and nearby cafés, restrooms and shops come from OpenStreetMap.
We Rate Every Charger
The PlugCompass Score (0-10) combines price, charging speed, reliability, access and number of ports, and shows every part. Distance and ads never change it. AI is only used to read messy price text into a comparable cost per kWh and to summarize driver comments. How we score.
You Charge With Confidence
Price-colored map markers, filters for speed, plug, place type and network, "Did it work?" check-ins, and a "While you charge" list of what's within a 4-minute walk. The calculator estimates the cost before you drive there.

Our Mission
We believe EV drivers deserve honest, transparent information about chargers. As EV adoption grows, drivers deserve the same price comparison tools that gas-powered car drivers have had for decades. PlugCompass is our contribution to making electric driving more affordable and less confusing.
